What's this Olive?

Yesterday Renee was doing a festival again and we had to leave Olive alone for a few hours - we always "Puppy Proof" the apartment before we leave - but this time we failed to put away one little thing...

Hanging with Coldplay

As we mentioned in an earlier post, Brian won a design contest (for the shirt he's wearing in this picture) and we got to meet the band before an upcoming show here in Portland. They were all super friendly, especially considering that Chris seemed like he just woke up (wearing sweat pants, old tennis shoes and a ratty shirt).

Also - if you are interested in hearing Brian's super in depth review you should click HERE.

The other half of the winnings were that we got to sit on the stage for the show. Unfortunately after Renee snapped this picture they told us they didn't want us to take any more. It's okay though because we were behind this netting and although we could see really well, it looks like the pictures wouldn't have turned out great

Here is a picture from the show that I found online - you can kind of see the shadows of us standing on the side of the stage - right next to their guitar tech!

These are shots that I pulled from other people who got shots of the concert from the crowd.

During their song Lovers in Japan - they realease a bajillion paper butterflies into the crowd. The second wave of them were neon colors and they turned on black lights which was AWESOME! Check out the video below.

There is a nice pan in the first minute of this video that shows just how big the venue was - literally a sea of people.

at about 3:24 in this video, Chris is singing right in front of the guitar tech's station - we are RIGHT next to the station - I tried to see if you can glimpse us standing behind the curtain but looks like we're covered pretty well.

The Ingrid Comes To Portland!

Our first night in Portland together we went to one of our favorite sushi places, San Sai. It was Mom's first time trying Saki, I think she liked it :)

On one of the warmest days yet we went to the east side to a festival on Mississippi street. Behind us about 5-7 children are painting a car with tempura paints for a charity donation of some kind.

One of the nights we decided to stay in and drink 3 buck-chuck (Charles Shaw wine that costs $3), and build an amazing 1000 piece puzzle.

Oh yes, and Renee modeling an American Apparel outfit that Brian and Ingrid picked out.

She didn't buy it.

Our trip to the Gorge. We hiked up to the top of the Multnomah waterfall. It is the 2nd tallest waterfall in the U.S, one of the tallest sections is over 650 feet.

Thanks for visiting Portland Ingrid, we had a blast!

Oh ya, from all of us here in Portland..."Lighthouse".

Dave Chappelle Stops by PDX

So Brian heard a rumor that Dave Chappelle was planning on doing some impromptou comedy downtown in Pioneer Square at midnight last night. We headed down to see what the hubub was all about around 10:30 - there were maybe 20-50 people hanging around with us.

We were right in front of the stage, but the crowd grew and grew behind us, until there were probably about 4000 people crammed in. Since this was all word of mouth rumors, nobody knew if he would really show. By 12:45 people were starting to get antsy. And by antsy, I mean that we were worried abotu a riot starting. Were were just about to leave when he actually SHOWED UP! Crazyness! The only problem was that all he brought was a small amp, and even being a few people away from him, we could hardly hear what he was saying.

He said, "I wasn't expecting this many people, as you can tell by my audio setup. I told four people, and four thousand showed up. Next time I better not tell anybody"

We left around 1:30am because it was pretty obvious that nothing was going to get worked out quickly. Apparently they couldn't remedy the sound situation he eventually had to call it a night.

Here are some pictures and video. The news one is funny because they have all the facts wrong, saying that he actually performed (not true, although he might have been there for about an hour, trying to control the crowd and figure out the sound) - they also said his mic didn't work. It did - but he only had a 12 inch guitar amp - and grossly underestimating the number of people there. The second one is him actually talking.

Read a full article about what happened HERE.

Elva's Art

At the last art market that we went to we happened upon a young emerging artist known only as 'Elva'. We were lucky enough to commission her to do portraits of us both (below).

Coldplay win!

As some of you may heard, Brian just got a call this morning that he won a local T-shirt design contest and we will get to sit ON THE STAGE for a Coldplay show. This was his winning design.

This is audio from when it was announced on the radio!
