Something from Nothing
We found these sweet (albeit "slightly" worn) chairs at William Temple House for a whopping $5 a Piece. We decided they needed a makeover.
Here is the end result. We like how they turned out, but most importantly the chairs said they felt better about themselves. In the end we were all happy.

Apartment!
Here it is.
Fun fact!: This apartment building was also the site of the infamous Stanley Dunderhofferman murders of 1974.
Here is the kitchen area. It came equipped with an old potato bin and ice boxes.
This is the living area, complete with visitors from afar.
Find of the day: Not sure what he is. Are taking submissions for names.
Also, are those his arms? Or is he the only stuffed animal I've ever seen with a nosebleed.

Infinity Miles per Gallon
Renee and I are working on breaking in our new Keen walking shoes. We found them for a steal of a deal, especially considering they are replacing cars.

The City
Ready to discover it's new surroundings, the bright mittened lake state homosapien waits for the approaching streetcar.
A man and his trusty (or maybe rusty) canine contemplate the complexities of urban living.
Here are some views of the downtown area.
This is a view of Pioneer Square, the center of downtown Portland.
The Hostel
Let me welcome you to Hostel International's Northwest Portland Hostel! For those of you who thought we have been staying in the run of the mill rat infested, grimy, germ factory of a youth hostel that you might be used to, let me show you otherwise...
"This is Portland's most centrally located hostel. You can walk to the city centre, Amtrak/Greyhound, Washington Park (Rose Garden, Japanese Garden, Oregon Zoo), Powell's City of Books, museums, downtown, the Pearl, Chinatown and more. Only 3 blocks to Portland's fareless zone: all buses, trams, and street cars are free in downtown. "
Here is the main lobby.

Another inside view...
In this photo a typical private room is displayed by one of the knowledgeable hostel tour guides.
Here we find our intrepid explorer, Renee, proudly displaying every worldly possession that has accompanied us on our travels. It's all there. Our bags all weighed in at just under 50 pounds in Detroit.
